There's a certain honesty to a house that lets its roof do the talking, and that's very much the spirit behind this home for Mr. Fahim. Twin terracotta-tiled gables rise up over a base of natural stone, with a slim rooftop pergola nook tucked in between them — a quiet perch above the house that catches the evening breeze rather nicely.
Walk in through the front door and the house opens up immediately into a tall, double-height living space, glazed floor to ceiling, with a steel-railed walkway bridging across the void above. It is the kind of entrance that makes a modest footprint feel a lot more generous than it actually is. Ground floor keeps things straightforward and family-friendly — living hall, kitchen and dining tucked to one side, master bedroom and a second bedroom to the other, each with their own washroom attached, all opening out to a proper front garden yard and parking verandah facing the road.
Upstairs, the pantry, a bedroom, and two family living pockets — one wrapping around the void, the other settled in near a timber-slatted TV wall — sit under an exposed timber rafter ceiling that gives the whole upper floor a warm, cabin-like feel, quite different in mood from the crisp stone and glass downstairs. A balcony off the family living area lets the family step right out over the garden below.
Simple materials — stone, timber, steel, tile — used honestly, and a roof that isn't shy about being the hero of the house.
